We are pleased to announce that our facility has been accredited by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) through APEx – Accreditation Program for Excellence®. APEx is an accreditation program developed by ASTRO that validates a radiation oncology facility’s excellence in delivering high-quality patient care. Accreditation through APEx is a voluntary and rigorous multi-step process during which a facility’s practices are evaluated using consensus-based standards. A facility must demonstrate its safety and quality processes and that it adheres to patient-centered care by promoting effective communication, coordinated treatments, and strong patient engagement. Our facility has demonstrated those processes and continues to engage them in our patients’ care. Learn more about how accredited facilities such as ours use the process of accreditation to benefit patients and find additional educational materials on radiation therapy treatment on the ASTRO patient information site, RTAnswers.org.
Our radiation oncology team has clinical expertise in treating all adult malignancies. This list includes but is not limited to cancers of the breast, gynecologic organs (cervix, uterus, vagina, vulva), gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, rectum, anus, pancreas) genitourinary tract (bladder, prostate), thorax (lung), soft tissues, head and neck, central nervous system (brain, spine), and skin cancers.
Though all of our physicians are trained in the treatment of pediatric malignancies, we understand that pediatric oncology is a discipline that deserves academic attention – thus we serve as community extensions of our academic counterparts.
We also specialize in treating certain benign conditions such as keloids and heterotopic ossification of bone.
We are excited to announce that we recently updated two of our linear accelerators (LINACs) now with enhanced capabilities, installing matched Elekta Infinity machines. Both are equipped with IGRT (image guided radiation therapy) and CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) pretreatment imaging systems, with complimentary advanced hexapod couch alignment system. These machines complement Tomotherapy as the most advanced delivery system in south Georgia.
